Surface
- Flat and firm: patio, decking, paved courtyard, or well-compacted gravel.
- Roughly 70 × 45 cm footprint. Allow 30 cm clearance behind for airflow.
- Avoid soft lawn — the base will sink and the wall will lean.
Power
- One outdoor-rated 3-pin socket within 5 metres.
- RCD-protected circuit (standard on any UK garden socket installed since 2008).
- No mains rewiring required.
Drainage
- Occasional overspray on the surrounding surface — a metre of paved or gravel margin is ideal.
- Do not place directly over untreated wood decking without a drip tray.
Shelter
- Full sun is fine. Deep shade is fine. Prevailing wind against a wall or fence is ideal.
- Avoid fully enclosed spaces — the wall needs airflow to disperse the salt mist.
